WILLMAR -- Joyce Elaine Lovander, 80, of Willmar died Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the Eagle Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Sioux Valley to Charles and Blanche (Elston) Schwarzenbach. She grew up and graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1946. She attended the University of Minnesota.
She married Donald "Boone" Lovander on Oct. 5, 1947, in Sioux Valley. They lived in Willmar. She later attended nursing school and worked as a licensed practical nurse and cottage director at the Willmar State Hospital for 25 years. She was active with AARP and a member of the the Willmar Senior Citizens, where she served several years as president. She was a 4-H leader for many years and mentored grade school children. She moved to Copperleaf Assisted Living in October.
She is survived by her children: Ruth (and Richard) Lovander-Foley of Eden Prairie, Douglas (and Susan) Lovander of Willmar, Marilyn Lovander of Gainesville, Fla., and Lois (and Kevin) Fladeboe of Willmar; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jack Schwarzenbach of California and Jay Schwarzenbach of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994; a daughter: Carol Lovander; and two sisters.
