Julian O. Skalbeck July 3, 1945 - Oct. 17, 2009
CRYSTAL -- Julian "J" Odell Skalbeck, 64, of Crystal died Oct. 17 in Crystal.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Washburn-McReavy Crystal Lake Chapel, 3816 Penn Ave. N., Minneapolis. Memorials preferred to Midtown Greenway Coalition, worldbiker relief.com or a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born July 3, 1945, in Montevideo to Marvin and Adella (Hegdahl) Skalbeck. He grew up in Sacred Heart and attended Mankato State University earning his bachelor's degree. He later earned his master's degree at the University of Oregon. He served in the U.S. Army. His business career began with Cargill, Inc., continued with Control Data Corporation and finished with Hennepin County Environmental Services. He was an avid bicyclist and served in various capacities on boards of several bicycle organizations.
He is survived by his siblings: Charlotte (and Lohart) Renner of Prior Lake, Yvonne (and Gale) Lennon of Portland, Ore., Wesley (and Linda) Skalbeck, of Dayton, Ohio, and Bruce (and Cheryl) Skalbeck of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
