Juliet Avelsgaard Sept. 11, 1915 - June 29, 2009

APPLETON -- Juliet Avelsgaard, 93, of Perham, formerly of Appleton, died Monday.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Burial will be in Appleton City Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Monday at the church. Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton.

She was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Hantho Township, Lac qui Parle County, to John and Jonetta (Moen) Hastad. She attended rural school in Hantho Township and Appleton High School.

She married Orville Avelsgaard on July 13, 1934. She was a farm wife and homemaker. She also worked at Fingerhut in Benson and was owner of Mike & Tom's Drive-Inn. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Zion Ladies Aid. She also belonged to the Hantho Sewing Club, volunteered for the Senior Citizen Nutrition Center, the Appleton Municipal Nursing Home and the Green Thumb program.

She is survived by five children: Orlen (and Sharon) Avelsgard of Appleton, Ruth Ann (and Phillip) Nash of Springfield, Va., Martin (and Marie) Avelsgaard of Benson, Michael (and Peggy) Avelsgaard of Ottertail, and Thomas (and Caryn) Avelsgaard of Victoria, Australia; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Morris (and Delores) Hastad of Madison, Glenda Nelson of St. Cloud and Helen Wilkening of Appleton.

She is preceded in death by her husband in 1976; one grandson, three brothers and four sisters.
