Jury selection continues in murder trial of 19-year-old Willmar man
WILLMAR -- Jury selection continues this morning in the trial of a 19-year-old Willmar man charged with murder in the death of a Ridgewater student.
Miles David Edinburgh faces a single second-degree murder charge in Kandiyohi County District Court for the stabbing death last July of Adam Kenneth Milton, 21. Potential jurors were questioned in the courtroom by District Judge Jon Stafsholt.
Individual jurors were also questioned by the judge and attorneys in private in the judge's chambers. The trial is scheduled through Oct. 15. Edinburgh is represented by Joseph Parise, an assistant state public defender, and Eighth District Public Defender Jay Liedman. First Assistant Kandiyohi County Attorney Connie Crowell is prosecuting the case.
Milton died after being stabbed twice in the chest during a verbal and physical exchange with Edinburgh during an early morning incident July 20, 2008, near Evergreen Ridge Apartments.
Edinburgh, 17 at the time, was charged as a juvenile. Last October, Judge Stafsholt ordered he be certified as an adult. The case was put on hold while that decision was appealed. In April, the Minnesota Court of Appeals affirmed the adult certification.
