Juvenile driver killed when vehicle strikes house in Redwood Falls
REDWOOD FALLS -- A vehicle driven by a juvenile female crashed into an unoccupied home, killing the driver and injuring her passenger while also starting the building and vehicle on fire.
Police in Redwood Falls said the accident occurred at 5:45 a.m. Thursday at 118 Edgewood Drive in Redwood Falls.
The driver was reported deceased at the scene. The names of the driver and her passenger, also a juvenile female, were not released by authorities early Thursday pending notification of family.
However, an obituary notice for a Samantha Leigh Schuler, 17, of Redwood Falls, who had died in a car accident, was received by the Tribune later Thursday.
The passenger was transported to the Redwood Falls hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries. Her condition was not released.
The Redwood Falls Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze.
The body of the driver was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.
The case remains under investigation by the Redwood Falls Police Department. They were assisted at the accident scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, Redwood County Sheriff's Department, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
