The District 1 Commissioner choice is incumbent Richard Falk or challenger Jim Butterfield, both of Willmar. This district includes the west side of Willmar.
Butterfield is a sales manager and travels Minnesota and Iowa. He has negotiating talents and problem-solving abilities as assets. He ran because no one else did. That is not a solid reason to be elected to this position.
Falk is not only an experienced commissioner, but also brings board experience from the Willmar School Board and Rice Memorial Hospital. He is a longtime Realtor in the community. Falk's strengths are being a government innovator, a fiscal conservative and a supporter of cooperative government through partnering.
Voters should re-elect Falk.
