Kandiyohi County Board to discuss appointing statutory officers

WILLMAR -- The Kandiyohi County Commissioners are expected to discuss the pros and cons of appointing, rather than electing, certain statutory officers during their regular board meeting on Tuesday.

The board delayed the discussion last month, but will likely hear details about the process for making some positions, like auditor and recorder, appointed positions. The discussion is taking place, in part, because Auditor Sam Modderman is retiring next month, before his term expires at the end of 2014.

Other items on the agenda include discussion about county redistricting borders, county feedlot programs, the bond sale for Green Lake Sewer and a request for authorization to request proposals for long term disability insurance and life insurance quotes.

The regular board meeting begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Health and Human Services Building, 2200 23rd S.t N.W., Willmar.

Prior to the regular meeting, the commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. as the family services board. Items on that agenda include a report from Lutheran Social Services on their SEARCH program, updates on annual reports for the county's income maintenance programs and a report on the transition of interim family services director Ann Stehn.
