Kandiyohi County Board to meet Tuesday

WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday for their regular business meeting.

The board is expected to set a date for a public hearing on a proposal to appoint, rather than elect, the county auditor/treasurer.

Setting the public hearing is the first step in the process to make the position an appointed job.

The board has been considering making the change since Auditor/Treasurer Sam Modderman retired in 2012.

Mark Thompson was appointed to fill Modderman’s remaining term, which runs through the end of 2014.

Other items on the agenda include distribution of nearly $20,000 in revenue generated from the gravel tax, a presentation of the 2013 community service report and action on a grant for the Bur Oak Nordic ski trail.

At 10:30 a.m. the board will conduct a public hearing on an appeal by Duane Hultgren on a decision of the wetland technical evaluation panel.

Prior to the regular board meeting, the commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. as the Family Services Committee, when the board will hear updates on several county youth programs.

The board meets on the second floor of the Health and Human Services Building, 2200 23 St. N.E. in Willmar.
