Kandiyohi County Board plans road and bridge tour Monday
WILLMAR -- The Kandiyohi County Board will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday for road and bridge updates and a road tour.
The board will meet at the County Public Works Department at 1801 E. Highway 12 in Willmar. The meeting is open to the public.
County Public Works Director Gary Danielson said the board would tour a number of the county's summer projects, including road work on County Road 9 near Eagle Lake and work near Sibley State Park.
Road work has been slowed by recent wet weather, Danielson said, but there will be progress to review when county commissioners tour the projects.
The board will also discuss recent and future public works budgets and projects.
"We'll review the 2013 projects, and talk about what will carry over to 2014," Danielson said.
Discussion will also begin about the possibility of levying a $10 per vehicle wheelage tax in the county. The Legislature has allowed counties across the state to levy the tax and spend the money on roads.
In the past, only metropolitan counties were allowed to levy the tax.
Danielson said the tax could raise about $400,000 in Kandiyohi County and allow the county to do more road projects without raising property taxes.
