The commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. at the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services building with selected department heads to discuss line item budget requests for the departments.

The 2013 budget includes a $75,000 reduction in county program aid from 2012.

Expenses to study groundwater contamination from the landfill, that had been anticipated for next year, will be reduced because of positive results from studies completed this year.

Recent resignations at the county's University of Minnesota's Extension office in Willmar, as well as a request for financial assistance from the Kandiyohi County Historical Society for construction of an addition to the museum, may also result in changes to the budget.

The initial county levy must be certified by Sept. 15.

The final budget must be approved by the end of December.

Thursday's work session is in addition to the regular meeting of the County Board today.
