Keith Nelson Sept. 26, 1928 - Feb. 8, 2009
LITCHFIELD -- Keith LeMoine Nelson, 80, of Litchfield died Sunday at his home.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Lake Benton Hilltop Cemetery later in the year.
He was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Lake Benton to Floyd and Laura (Briffert) Nelson. Following graduation from Lake Benton High School in 1946, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving until 1948. In 1948, he attended South Dakota State College in Brookings, S.D.
On Nov. 5, 1950, he married Laura Bonnie Olson in Minneapolis. He attended Mankato State College and received a degree in business and teaching. In 1955, he started teaching in Verdi and continued teaching in Milan. They moved to Litchfield in 1965 where he taught for 21 years before retiring in 1986. While teaching in Litchfield he received his master's degree in business education from St. Cloud College. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served as treasurer. He was also treasurer for the Litchfield Lions and the Meeker County Food Shelf.
He is survived by his wife; children: Mark (and Karen) Nelson of Hettinger, N.D., Kay (and Steve Cook) Nelson of Hutchinson, Dean (and Martha) Nelson of Hanover, Joleen Nelson of Glencoe and Mona Nelson of Litchfield; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son: David; one brother; and one sister.
