DASSEL -- Kenneth Harold "Ken" Kruger, 76, of New Hope and Lake Minne Belle, died Thursday at the Lakeside Nursing Home in Dassel.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Burial will be in the Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield with military honors by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

He was born May 25, 1932, in Litchfield to Carl and Elsie (Duehlmeier) Kruger. He attended school at District 94 and at the age of 16, graduated from Litchfield High School. He worked on the family farm and at Shorty Walters' gravel pit. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, including serving in Germany. He joined the reserves and finished his military service in 1960, serving in the Willmar unit.

He married LaVonne Varland on April 29, 1961, in rural Litchfield. They lived in Minneapolis. For 33 years, he worked for Nabisco as a driver. They made Lake Minne Belle their second home. After retiring in 1994, they spent summers on Lake Minne Belle.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of New Hope; daughter: Lorie (and Don) Danielson of Lakeland; son: David (and Kris Opheim) Kruger of Crystal; one grandchild; and a sister: Eleanor Beckstrand of Litchfield.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
