Kermit E. Carlson Sept. 21, 1927 - March 25, 2013
WILLMAR - Kermit E. Carlson, 85 of Willmar, died March 25, 2013 at Bethesda Heritage Nursing Home in Willmar. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Kermit Elroy Carlson was born on September 21, 1927 on the family farm near Kerkhoven, the son of Carl and Esther (Anderson) Carlson. As a young child the family moved to Willmar and later Lake Andrew where Kermit attended country grade school. On Feb. 14, 1946 Kermit entered the United States Army where he served his country during WWII. He was honorably discharged on July 27, 1947 and returned home. On Feb. 23, 1952, Kermit was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Becklin in Cambridge. To this union three sons and a daughter were born. They made their home in Willmar until 1981 when moving to Gerretson, South Dakota. They moved back to Willmar in 1988. Kermit worked for the railroad for most of his career, retiring in 1989. Kermit and Phyllis were able to share in 61 years of marriage.
Kermit was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Joel (Lorry) Carlson, Gerald (Lisa) Carlson, Todd (Chris) Carlson and Lisa (Mark) Larsen; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Russel (Edith) Carlson of St. Cloud and Wally (Lela) Carlson of Bullhead City, AZ ; and sisters-in-law, Clariette Carlson and Grace Carlson of Willmar.
Kermit was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Arthur and Marlyn and infant great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Walsh.
