Kevin Kotz May 7, 1961 - Nov. 1, 2008
REDWOOD FALLS -- Kevin Charles Kotz, 47, of Redwood Falls died Saturday at home.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine's Ca-tholic Church in Redwood Falls with burial at St. Patrick's Birch Coulee Cemetery, rural Franklin.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born May 7, 1961, in Faribault to Roman and Colleen (Strehlow) Kotz. He attended elementary school in Faribault and Farmington and graduated from New London-Spicer High School in 1979. In high school, he began working in photography and journalism at the West Central Tribune in Willmar. He attended North Dakota State University and worked at various newspapers in Minnesota, including those in Duluth, Marshall and Redwood Falls.
He married Susan Russenberger. In 2006, he joined the Redwood Gazette in Redwood Falls as a staff writer and photographer.
He married Peggy Tretbar Kipfer on Aug. 4, 2007, at Diamond Lake. They lived in Redwood Falls. He served in the Minnesota National Guard and was a member of the Redwood Falls Rotary Club. He was involved in community affairs, especially the new aquatic center.
He is survived by his wife; daughter: Amber Kotz of St. Paul; mother and step-father: Colleen and Chuck Stam of Faribault; stepchildren: Heather Kipfer, Megan Kipfer and Holden Kipfer all of Morton; siblings: Brian Kotz of Minneapolis, Denise (and Joe) Moravec of Faribault; half-brothers: Jason Kotz of Pierre, S.D. and Fabian (and Serenity) Kotz of Belle Plaine; and stepmother: Mary Ann Kotz of Lakeville.
He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife.
