Three children reportedly injured in elementary school shooting in South Carolina

Kimball woman killed in crash northeast of Litchfield

LITCHFIELD — A 62-year-old Kimball woman was killed in a motor vehicle crash around 9 a.m. this morning at the intersection of State Highway 24 and 670th Avenue in Meeker County.

According to the State Patrol, Barbara J. Root was driving a 2004 Kia westbound on Highway 24 and made a defensive move to avoid on oncoming vehicle, but collided head-on with a third vehicle, a 1995 Chevy pickup driven by Douglas J. Hughes, 50, of Litchfield.

The oncoming vehicle was an eastbound 2000 Pontiac driven by Matthew B. Bohach, 20, of Litchfield. Bohach was not injured.

Hughes was taken to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Also responding was the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.
