Kings take opener from Wild on shootout

ST. PAUL — Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter scored in a shootout, lifting the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild in the season opener for both teams Thursday.

Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu in the shootout to go along with 27 saves in the prior 65 minutes to backstop the win.
