NORTH MANKATO -- Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg won a meeting of undefeateds in the first-round of the Class A softball tournament in dramatic fashion Thursday morning at Caswell Park.

The Saints (22-0) scored the game's only run on a Courtney Olson single in the top of the seventh to nudge the Hawley Nuggets (20-1) by a 1-0 count.

Erin Haglund scored easily from third with none out. Haglund had reached on a single to right, only the team's second hit off Hawley ace Jessy Noreen (17-1). Haglund was able to take third when the ball got by the right fielder.

Olson followed with her second hit of the game, both hard hit to right.

The Nuggets weren't done. Back-to-back one-out singles put Nuggets on first and third.

KMS coach Eileen Suter went to the circle and brought in Haglund from shortstop to pitch. Sam Dunn, who allowed just three hits and no walks, went to short.

Noreen, a .400 hitter, hit a liner to the right of first baseman Kelsey Jorgenson. She stabbed and stepped on first for the double play to end the game.

KMS will face New Life Academy of Woodbury at about 3 p.m. today. The Eagles (22-4) have played in six straight state tournaments and have won the last three. In seven post-season games this spring, they have outscored their opponents 75-1, including Osakis (23-1) by a 13-0 score today.
