Koenen takes early lead in Senate District 20 special election
Rep. Lyle Koenen has taken an early lead in the Senate District 20 special election.
With 53 percent of the votes counted Koenen, DFL-Clara City, has 1,935 votes. Gregg Kulberg, R-Hector, has 1,348 votes and Leon Greenslit, a member of the Independence Party from Olivia has 157.
The winner of the three-way race will fill the remaining term of the late Sen. Gary Kubly, who died last month.
The term will run through the end of the year.
District 20 includes Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, Renville, Swift and Yellow Medicine counties.
