Lady Warriors nab Southern crown
WILLMAR -- Ridgewater locked up the MCAC Southern Division title on Saturday, sweeping Rochester 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 in junior college volleyball action.
The win also gives the Lady Warriors the top seed at the state tournament and will now host th eRegion 13 championship match on Oct. 30.
Emily Roelike and Hannah Smith uncorked 11 kilsl apiece as the Lady Warriors improved to 10-0 in the division and 24-1 overall.
"It was imperative for us to stay on task in this match," said Ridgewater coach Joe Sussenguth. "Rochester is trying to avoid a second-place tie with Anoka-Ramsey in the conference. So, we had a feeling that Rochester was going to give us some different looks."
Ridgewater finished with a .214 kill efficiency mark.
"Our offense wasn't in sync as we would have liked," Sussenguth said. "But we made a series of small runs when we needed to. Defensively, we did a great job at the net and were able to contain a variety of attacks Rochester threw at us."
Maggie Zirk added six kills in eight attacks for the Lady Warriors. Aimee Johnson had two of the team's three ace serves, while also amassing 10 digs. Molly Hurrle finished with 33 assists and three blocks. Roelike and Macy McKay had 13 digs each.

The Lady Warriors host Minnesota West at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
