Lady Warriors rout Fergus Falls twice for eighth straight win

FERGUS FALLS -- A seven-run first inning in the opener and a 19-hit attack in the nightcap allowed Ridgewater to sweep a MCAC Southern Division twin bill from Fergus Falls Thursday 9-4 and 16-3 in softball.

The Lady Warriors' win streak increased to eight after the sweep and now stand at 17-5 overall and 9-1 in the division.

Brandi Bodin was 5-for-9 in the two-game series to raise her batting average on the season to .500. The sophomore collected four hits, all of which drove in at least one run, in the second game.

Sara Beyer also had five hits on the day for Ridgewater as the Lady Warriors outhit Fergus Falls 29-7 while striking out just six times.

Andrea Krause struck out nine and allowed just one earned run in the first game for Ridgewater to improve to 10-2 on the season. Shannon Heitz improve to 7-2 after she didn't give up an earned run and struck out eight in the second game.

Ridgewater was scheduled to host Anoka-Ramsey for another division game today, but inclement weather forced the doubleheader to be moved back to Sunday starting at 1:30 p.m. in Willmar.

The Lady Warriors wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as singles from Emily Roelike, Whitley Strei, Bevin Williams, Jen Storck (RBI), Aimee Johnson (RBI) and Samantha Cunningham (2 RBIs) helped Ridgewater plate seven runs in the first inning.

Ridgewater had 11 batters visit the plate in the sixth inning and after seven hits the Lady Warriors' six-run lead ballooned to 13.

Brandi Bodin launched a two-run homer in the third inning, doubled in a run in the fourth, drove in two more runs with a fifth-inning double and added an RBI single in the sixth.

Ten players got at least one hit for Ridgewater with Emily Roelike and Sara Beyer both going 3-for-5. Jen Storck and Amanda Horst both added two hits with Horst's going for doubles.
