Larry E. Hanson April 18, 1937 - Nov. 27, 2009
SPICER -- Larry Eugene Hanson, 72, of Spicer died Friday at his home in rural Spicer.
The service is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Spicer American Legion. Burial will be at a later date.
Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home of New London.
He was born April 18, 1937, in Spicer to Lester and Alice (Sorenson) Hanson. He grew up in rural Spicer and attended New London Elementary and High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at 17 and served during the Korean Conflict.
On Oct. 24, 1959, he married Joyce Schreffler in Hawick. They lived in the Spicer area. They later divorced. On Feb. 21, 1992, he married Debra Fredeen in Reno, Nev. They lived in rural Spicer.
He was a boilermaker and worked for Steel Tanks, Research Cottrell and Midwest Precipitator. He retired in 1991 and became the gambling manager at Spicer American Legion. He retired from the American Legion in 2002.
He was a member of the Spicer American Legion, Willmar Veterans of Foreign Wars, Boilermakers Union, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Shriners.
He is survived by his wife; children: Dori (and Brian) Blaha of Centerville, Utah; Larry E. Hanson Jr. of Willmar, and Ricky W. Hanson, of Willmar; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister: Dorothy (and Clinton) Hinseth of Sunburg; and a brother: Don (and Judy) Hanson of Rogers.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Lori Hegstrom; a granddaughter; and a brother.
