Lawrence William Manderfeld, the son of Roman and Mathilda (Brtek) Manderfeld, was born July 7, 1929 on the family farm in Kingman Township, rural Olivia, Minnesota. He was baptized, received his First Holy Communion and Confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. Larry grew up on the farm and he attended Renville County School. The family later moved to Morton where he then attended Morton High School. From 1947 to 1951 he worked as an auto mechanic for Ororucks Motor Sales in Olivia. Larry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Sugamo Prison in Japan where he worked as a MP. In 1955 he acquired his private pilot license and spent many hours in the plane with his brother-in-law Dick Fritz. After the service he worked for Chamberlain Engineering as a surveyor from 1954 until his retirement in 1991. Larry married Marlyce Johnson on February 1st, 1957 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia, and they were blessed with four daughters. Larry loved fishing the area lakes, but especially Big Kandi. Rarely did he ever come home without walleyes. He loved sharing his adventures of his time spent on the lake, recalling every detail. He rarely missed watching a Twins or Vikings game. He also enjoyed hunting, stock car and snowmobile racing in his younger years. He enjoyed driving around town and visiting people. He had a special place in his heart for those who he thought needed a friend. He and Marlyce loved taking trips to Cuernavaca, Mexico to visit his best friend, Tom Schnelle and his family. He treasured the friendship and visits with his life long friend, Chuck Brandt. The absolute joy of Larry's life was his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marlyce Manderfeld of Olivia; his four daughters: Roxanne Manderfeld (and Dave) of Eden Prairie, Rhonda (and Rick) Squibb of Olivia, Raenette Manderfeld-Pung (and David) of Afton and Rochelle (and John) Woodward of Woodbury; his 12 grandchildren: Alex, Sam, Ben, John (and April), Jiselle (and Mike), Jocelyn (and Andy), Maxwell, Madelyn, Mitchell, Roman, Evan and Grant; his four great-grandchildren: Layla, Lexon, Hunter and Haydin; his two nephews: Tom and Tim; and his two nieces: Sue and Kathy. He was also survived by three step-granddaughters and two step-great granddaughters.
