Laura E. Sjoquist June 29, 1917 - Dec. 7, 2008
SUNBURG -- Laura Evelyn Sjoquist, 91, of Sunburg, died Sunday at the GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
The services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Lake Lutheran Church in rural Sunburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Sunburg Funeral Home.
She was born June 29, 1917, in Arctander Township, Kandiyohi County, to Andrew and Emma (Nygaard) Henjum. She attended District 54 School through the 8th grade.
She married Carl Sjoquist on Sept. 4, 1943 and they lived in Sunburg. She worked at the Sunburg Elementary School as a teacher's aide for more than 20 years and played piano for the school's Christmas pageants. She was a member of West Lake Lutheran Church where she was a member of the ladies aid and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Joyful Messengers singing group.
She is survived her children: Janyce (and Willie) Flanery of Lodi, Calif., Charles (and Mary) Sjoquist of Queenstown, Md., Owen Sjoquist of Sunburg and LuAnn Amberson of Shakopee; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, one sister and one brother.
