CLARA CITY - LaVonne Marie Doesken, 77, of Clara City, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Her funeral will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, March 19th at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Monday at the church with refreshments served in the church basement during the visitation. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Clara City Funeral Home in Clara City, www.hafh.org.
LaVonne was born on December 8, 1935, in Lone Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Marie (Haack) Denton. She grew up on a farm near Seneca. LaVonne attended Seneca Consolidated schools, graduating in 1953. Following graduation she moved to Raymond, Minnesota to live with an uncle and started working at American News Company.
On May 7, 1954, she was united in marriage to Alvin Doesken at Bethany Reformed Church where she was a member. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm near Clara City and later to his parents farm north of Clara City where they farmed and milked cows. In 1985, she began working for Somody Supply where she worked for 18 years. LaVonne also did the bookwork for Doesken Steel and worked for a few years for T&D Trucking as well.
She enjoyed the winters they were able to spend in Texas. The family also remembers how she enjoyed the many trips around the United States, Canada, Mexico, Cayman Islands and even Africa. Her family was everything to LaVonne and she cherished all the time she was able to spend with them.
Surviving are her husband, Alvin; children, Beverly (and Steven) Gunderson, Harold (and Linda) Doesken, Harlan (and Sharon) Doesken and Brian (and Julie Kay Toov) Doesken all of Clara City; grandchildren, Brooke (and Gregg), Anthony, Darcy (and Christopher), Nicole (and Jerry), Lucas (and Sarah), Victoria (and Pete) and Adam (and Emily); two step grandchildren, Aaron (and Sarah) and Tyler (and Vanessa); 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Darlene (and Russ) Barber of Estherville, IA; Roger (and Frances) Denton of Bancroft, IA; sister-in-law, Vivian Denton of Fairmont, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Darold; sister-in-law, Carol Seybert; and her mother and father-in-law.
