Lawrence W. Caskey Sept. 30, 1913 - May 14, 2009

WILLMAR -- Lawrence Willis Caskey, 95, of Willmar died Thursday at Rice Care Center in Willmar.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Raymond.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born Sept. 30, 1913, in Rembrandt, Iowa, to Willis and Anna (Siefken) Caskey. He moved to Minnesota with his family in 1921 and attended school in District 60, Jackson County, where he graduated from the eighth grade. They lived there for 10 years and south of Lakefield in the same county for another seven years. The family moved to Mountain Lake in 1937 and, in 1940, moved to Kandiyohi County. 

On Feb. 24, 1940, he married Florence Bertilson in St. James.  They lived in several communities, including Raymond, Butterfield and Seattle. They farmed for many years northwest of Priam. They moved to Willmar in 1966 where he continued to do carpentry work until his retirement in 1984.

He was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, the Minnesota Inventors Congress and the Norway Lake Association.

He is Survived by his daughters: Phyllis Thunstedt of Willmar and Judy Fernando of Kaneohe, Hawaii; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his siblings: Evelyn Hemple of Jackson, Dorothy Blomgren and Opal Holmgren, both of Willmar, Joyce (and Gil) Clemons of Wyoming, Roy (and Myrtle) Caskey of Willmar, Ernie Caskey of New London and Harold (and Delores) Caskey of Pennock. 

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2004, three brothers and one sister.
