Legion Baseball: Marshall crushes Willmar in ninth
WILLMAR -- Nine innings were one too many for the Willmar Legion on Monday night on Baker Field.
Trailing the entire game, Marshall erupted for eight runs in the top of the ninth to slam Willmar 10-4 in Division I, District 7 baseball.
Willmar led 4-1 after Brady Schneck's two-out, two run double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Marshall got one back in the eighth on a walk and two singles off starter Nathanial Swoyer.
It was a prelude of what was to come.
Marshall had eight consecutive batters reach base before Willmar could get an out. The first three runs were charged to Swoyer and the next five to Jake Rambow, who came over from third base in relief.
"We just can't find someone to step up at a time like that and say 'That's enough. We're not going to take this anymore,' said Willmar coach Wade Adamson.
Willmar is now 9-9 after losing to Little Falls 5-4 and tipping Dassel-Cokato 8-3 on Saturday at the St. Martin Wooden Bat tourney.
Willmar will host New Ulm on Thursday.
Marshall outhit Willmar 11-5.
