Legion Baseball: Montevideo perfect on weekend to claim Region 4 title

MONTEVIDEO -- Tanner Lindemann pitched seven innings, including three perfect frames to end the game, and Montevideo went on to defeat Madison 4-2 Sunday in the Region 4 title game.


Montevideo also hosts the District Final Four that starts Thursday. Montevideo will take on Eden Valley-Watkins at 7:45 p.m., the second game of the evening.

Montevideo batter Brett Bergeson was perfect at the plate, with a single, a double, a triple, two runs scored and two runs batted in.

Madison pitcher Ben Morken, took the loss, giving up four runs and six hits in six innings of work. Lindemann allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six.

In the bottom of the first inning, Joe Bednar led off with a double and later scored on a triple by Brett Bergeson. Bergeson scored on a wild pitch.

In the third, Bednar scored from second on a Bergeson double.

In the top half of the fourth with Montevideo up 3-1, when Colby Siegert of Madison hit a gapper to left field with runners on first and second. Colton Vien fielded the ball and threw a perfect strike to the second baseman, who then threw it to third base to beat out the runner by a step before the runner at second could score.

Siegert had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Madison.

Colton Vien and Brett Bergeson hit back-to-back RBI singles for part of a three-run second inning.

Tanner Lindemann hit a triple and scored two runs, while Vein and Bergeson each had two runs batted in for Montevideo. Madison batter Preston Kraft hit a single, a double and drove in a run.

Montevideo pitcher Jordan Thompson pitched a complete game for the win, giving up two runs and eight hits while striking out six.

Ben Morken took the loss after going four innings, allowing six runs, eight hits and one walk.

Sacred Heart/MACCRAY erupted for seven runs in the second, and six runs in the third.

Ryan Fransen was perfect at the plate with four singles and three RBI, and pitched four innings for the win. He gave up just two hits -- to Elliot Carmany and Aaron Zieske -- and walked one.

Cody Boonstra, Mitch Treml and Tucker Harazin added two hits each for the Scarlets.

Sacred Heart/MACCRAY scored four runs in the top-half of the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough.

Brandon Bornhorst led Madison with a double, a triple and two RBI. Brett Feldman and Ryan Fransen each had two hits and an RBI for Sacred Heart/MACCRAY.

Colby Siegert got the start and the win for Madison, throwing 6.2 innings. He allowed five runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. Bornhorst came in and pitched the last third of an inning, giving him the save. He had all zeros, except for one strikeout.

Fransen was tagged with the loss, going 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out five.
