MADISON -- After surrendering two hits and an unearned run in the first inning, Bryce Hiepler retired the next 20 batters in a row to help Madison beat Clinton 8-1 in a play-in game for the District 7, Division II Northwest Section playoffs Monday.

Madison will now play at Chokio on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals.

Hiepler finished the game with six strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Madison's offense, meanwhile, scored in every inning and was paced by Justin Stamp's 3-for-3 performance. Stamp had an RBI single and double while Jared Weber belted a two-run double and Scott Omland doubled in another run.

Madison also got two doubles from Tom Zupan and two singles from Colton Kanstrup.

(Play-in) -- Eric Croatt singled in two runs in the top half of the seventh inning and also scored after Morris committed two errors on the play.

Dallack Dosdall drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom half of the inning to get Morris (12-10) within 6-4, but Bellingham induced a groundout to end the game.

Darrick Henrichs singled twice and stole three bases to ignite Morris.

(Play-in) -- Mitch Christensen singled in pinch-runner Tyler Kuhno in the sixth inning to invoke the 10-run rule and put Montevideo (5-12) in Thursday's semifinals at Sacred Heart. Christensen also singled in a run in the first and had a two-run single in the second.

Montevideo pounded out 14 hits. Todd Bergeson had four hits, Christensen three and Josh Anderson and Andy Schultz two each.

Sacred Heart plated all of its runs in the first three innings behind run-scoring hits from Phil Erickson, Paul Peterson and Mike Fischer.

Erickson doubled and singled and Fischer doubled twice to spark Sacred Heart's offense.

Austen Hadley slugged a three-run homer in the fifth to get New London-Spicer within two.
