ST. CLOUD -- Scott Willenbring tamed Willmar Legion with a six-hitter and also supplied two of Cold Spring's 11 hits in an 8-2 win to open the four- day St. Cloud Invitational.

Post 167 scored both its runs in the first inning at Putz Field. John Sawatzky's single drove in Austin Adamson, who had led off with a walk, and Adam Fagerstrom who had followed with a single.

Willmar scratched out four more singles but never more than one per inning.

Andrew Bangen took the loss. He was touched for 10 hits in six innings.

Cold Spring leadoff Derek Lieser went 3-for-3 with a walk and scored all four times. The Cold Spring players were Class AA state champions for Rocori during the school season.

Willmar meets Bemidji at 5:30 p.m. today on Faber on Day 2 of the four-day, 12-team tournament.

Benson scored four runs in the first inning and six in the fifth to invoke the 10-run rule.

Brennan Kent pitched a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts. He also doubled twice and drove in a run in three trips.

Chris Boettcher, Camer-on Simmonds, and Andrew Ebert each went 2-for-3 for Benson. Cody Jaeger had a two-run double.

Morris (6-3) sent up 12 batters to the plate in the second inning and 15 in the third to produce 17 runs. Dustin Sauter, Brady Valnes and Mitch Kill had three hits apiece to help Morris outhit Brandon-Evansville 13-6. Sauter knocked in four runs.

Eric Riley legged out a three-run triple and Nate Gades slugged a two-run double in the third for Morris.

Montevideo belted out 16 hits in its opening game with Brett Bergeson and Troy Hendrickson getting three hits apiece.

Montevideo was trailing until Hendrickson doubled with two outs in the fourth and scored on Joe Bednar's groundout. Colton Vien then followed with a two-run double to pull Montevideo ahead.

Ryan Tostenson added a two-run homer and Christian Brabender shook off issuing nine walks in six innings of work on the mound to earn the win.

Troy Hendrickson singled with two outs in the fourth inning to break up Nate Quadhamer's bid for a perfect game.

That was the only hit Montevideo (6-3) would get as Quadhamer struck out nine and walked none in five innings.

Mike Siwz was 3-for-3, including a three-run homer, and drive in five runs.
