Email

SACRED HEART — Carter Asche survived a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning and a couple of RBI singles allowed Sacred Heart/MACCRAY to outlast Prinsburg 3-1 Monday in an American Legion baseball game.

Prinsburg was held scoreless for the first six innings before cutting into the Scarlets’ lead in the seventh. The visitors loaded the bases with one out and Sam Ohden hit a deep flyball to left-center that SHM left fielder Ransom Dykema hauled in at the warning track. Jacob VanDyken tagged up from third base to score, but Asche then induced a groundout to end the game and pick up the complete-game victory.

Asche shook off issuing six walks by allowing just three hits — two to Grant Hoekstra — and striking out four. Asche also drove in the game’s first run when he hit into a fielder’s choice in the second that allowed Dylan Abraham to score.

Abraham and Mitch Treml then supplied the Scarlets (4-1) a pair of run-scoring singles in the third.

Ohden was tagged with the loss after throwing the first three innings. T.J. Stoel then kept Prinsburg in the game by holding SHM hitless and scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Torgerson, who produced the game’s first run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, retired all six batters he faced in the sixth and seventh innings to get the win in relief of Jergenson and Danny Tracy.

Jergenson followed Torgerson’s sac fly with a single that brought in Austin Dierks and gave Morris a 2-0 lead.

Madison loaded the bases in the seventh after Jordan Thompson got two quick outs, but Thompson then induced a flyout to end the game and earn a complete-game victory.

Thompson struck out 10 — getting at least one strikeout in each inning — and gave up just four singles and a double while walking only one Madison batter.

Montevideo (5-1) got its two runs in the first when Tristan Weber singled, Zac Envoldsen and Marcus Kranz drew back-to-back walks and Austin Hiepler singled to right, bringing in Weber and Envoldsen.

Rain earlier in the day Monday pushed back the starting time an hour to 8 p.m.

Madison scored in the sixth when Jalen Baldwin came home on Ben Morken’s groundout. Morken was the hard-luck loser after striking out eight and giving up six hits and four walks in six innings.
