WILLMAR — Tony McCleary drove in the game-winning run with a second-inning single and Patrick Courtney made it hold up with a strong pitching performance in Willmar’s 4-2 Legion baseball win over Hutchinson on Monday at Bill Taunton Stadium.


Willmar improved to 11-8 with two regular-season games remaining. Playoff seeds will be decided today. Willmar plays host to Alexandria on Thursday.

McCleary and Courtney drove in first-inning runs and McCleary singled in Adam Nibauer in the second. Brandon Christensen drove in an insurance run in the fifth.

Courtney worked all seven innings, allowing six hits and an earned run while striking out six.

Mason Clark drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning and pitched out of a mini jam in the bottom of the inning of Hector’s playoff victory on Monday in Fairfax.

Clark drove in Taylor Broderius with a sacrifice fly in the ninth, then stranded two Fairfax runners to end the game.

Broderius had three hits and Josh Swanson drove in two runs for Hector.

Clark worked four innings in relief of starter Tate Lange.

Hector plays next against BOLD in Bird Island on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Four consecutive hits in the bottom half of the seventh inning propelled Prinsburg into the double-elimination portion of the Division II, Sub-District 3 playoffs. The third-seeded Orioles (11-5) will now face No. 2 Sacred Heart/MACCRAY at 7 p.m. in Sacred Heart on Thursday.

T.J. Stoel, who went 3-for-3, singled to lead off the Prinsburg seventh and moved to second on Sam Ohden’s single. Tyler Daugherty followed with a double off the fence in left-center to bring in Stoel and Nick Daugherty then brought in the tying and winning runs — Ohden and Tyler — with a double off the fence in left field.

Tyler worked the final three innings in relief of Stoel to get the win and Jordan Nelson hit a solo home run for Tri-Town.

Reed Raddatz’ bases-loaded, infield hit drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning in Granite Falls’ opening playoff game on Monday.

Zach Fischer had two hits and drove in a run and Austin Vikander pitched an inning in relief of starter Joe Sannerud to pick up the victory.

Granite Falls plays at Montevideo at 7 p.m. Thursday.
