Legion Baseball Roundup: Willmar clubs GFW

FAIRFAX — Paul Van Den Eide and Josh Warne collected four hits each to help Willmar pound out 21 hits and club Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 12-2 Monday.

Willmar (3-2) scored four times in the first after sending nine guys to the plate. Tyler Stegeman, Tony McCleary, Courtney and Austin Rambow — the first four hitters in the lineup — all reached and scored in the frame, capped by Rambow’s two-run triple.

Brandon Christenson added three hits to help Courtney pick up the victory. Courtney worked the first five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four and not giving up an earned run.

Willmar opened its season over the weekend at the Marshall Wood Bat Tournament, going 2-2. Post 167 beat Springfield 7-6 and Marshall 9-4, and lost 7-0 to Waconia and 12-4 to Watertown, S.D.

Next up for Willmar is the St. Cloud Tournament that starts on Thurday.

Eden Valley-Watkins touched up Hector’s Mason Clark 4 runs on 8 hits, and Austin Berg was 3-for-4 with a home run.

Berg also pitched for EVW and struck out 8 while walking none in a complete-game effort.

A pair of three-run frames helped aided Morris, which collected 14 hits with Bryce Jergenson providing three to score twice. Jake Torgerson, Tyler Henrichs, Mac Beyer and Andrew Rentz had two hits each.

Torgerson also worked the first six innings on the mound to get the win. He gave up seven hits, but also struck out six while giving up only one walk. Tanner Picht then pitched a scoreless seventh to preserve the shutout.

Austin Ostrander had three hits for Glenwood.

The Scarlets (3-1) sent up 12 batters to the plate in the second inning and got eight runs behind five hits, highlighted by a pair of two-run singles from Griff Schaub and Mitch Treml.

Sacred Heart/MACCRAY pounded out 15 hits with Carter Asche and winning pitcher Caleb Melin coming up with three apiece. Treml and Cody Boonstra added two each and combined to drive in three runs.

Melin shook off issuing five walks by allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out four in the first four innings. Schaub finished up and struck out seven.

Monte tipped Prinsburg in extra innings when Ricky Schmitz singled stole third base and scored when the throw went into left field.

Jordan Thompson shut the door in the bottom half to earn the save for Monte.

Schmitz stole two bases and Markus Kranz was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Sam Ohden was 2-for-3 and homered for Prinsburg.
