WILLMAR — Adam Nibaur struck out eight and Tyler Stegeman had three hits as the Willmar Legion team beat Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 6-3 on Monday at Swansson Field in Willmar.


Willmar scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fourth on Austin Smith’s RBI double to score Stegeman and break a 3-3 tie.

Smith scored on Tony McCleary’s single, and Willmar added one more in the fifth on Brett Swanson’s fielder’s choice to score Evan VanDenEinde.

Nibaur gave up two runs in the first, but Willmar immediately came back to tie it when Stegeman led off with a bunt single. He advanced to second on a sac bunt and scored on Brandon Christenson’s single.

After VanDenEinde walked, Christenson came home on a double steal to tie it 2-2.

Willmar also scored in the second on Stegeman’s RBI single.

Nibaur went the distance, allowing one earned run and walking none.

Prinsburg 9, SH/MACCRAY 1

PRINSBURG — Sam Ohden slugged a grand slam and T.J. Stoel pitched five effective innings to help Prinsburg topple Sacred Heart/MACCRAY 9-1 Monday.

The Orioles, who picked up their first win, scored in every inning except for the third and sixth. Stoel helped his own cause by hitting an RBI double in the first, the same frame that Matt Meyer also hit an RBI double.

Ohden then put Prinsburg ahead 6-0 with a grand slam in the second. Stoel capped the scoring with an RBI groundout in the fifth.

Grant Hoekstra scored four times, stole three bases and supplied two singles for Prinsburg.

Stoel held the visiting Scarlets to two hits while walking two and fanning two. His only costly mistake was surrendering a solo home run to Jacob Aviles in the fifth. Austin Bulthuis preserved the win by pitching two scoreless innings of relief.

The Orioles host Madison at 6 p.m. Thursday at Prinsburg City Field.

Madison strung together four hits for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past Montevideo.

Cole Bungarden started it with a one-out single. Pinch hitter Daniel Baldwin followed with a single, and after the second out, pinch hitter Jordan Long singled to score Bungarden.

That brought up Austin Domeier, who doubled over the left fielder’s head to bring in Baldwin with the game-winner.

Brandon Hill pitched a complete game and struck out seven to pick up the win.

Madison (7-0) next plays Thursday at Prinsburg.

Hutchinson put the game out of reach in the fourth inning as the home team sent up 14 batters to the plate, manufacturing 10 runs behind eight hits.

Tri-Town (0-2) scored its lone run in the top half of the frame when Payton Kinzler tripled to lead things off and came home on Brody Larson’s groundout. The Black Sox’s only other hit came an inning later when Ethan Schultz doubled.

Tri-Town hosts Hector on Thursday in Atwater at 7 p.m.

Eight batters visited the plate in the fifth inning for Morris to put the visitors ahead for good. Sean Amundson tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth by drawing a bases-loaded walk and Riley Biesterfeld followed with a hit that went over the centerfielder’s head for a three-run double.

Biesterfeld also worked all seven innings on the mound to earn the win for Morris (2-2). Biesterfeld surrendered 12 hits, but only gave up two earned runs while striking out three.

Morris, which scored twice in the first, put three runs on the board in the fourth behind Bryce Jergenson’s two-run homer and Jared Anderson’s RBI single.

Winning pitcher Russ Wendlandt singled in Kal Volinkaty, who singled and stole second base leading off the inning, with the go-ahead run in the sixth for Litchfield.

The victors also got a two-run homer from Austin Larson and an RBI doubles from Volinkaty and Eddie Estrada.

Ryan Vraa singled in a run in the first for New London-Spicer.
