Legion Baseball: SH/MACCRAY knocks off Granite Falls

SACRED HEART — The Sacred Heart/MACCRAY Legion baseball team took control of the game early and coasted to a 10-4 win over Granite Falls 10-4 on Monday.

Caleb Melin, Cody Boonstra and Tyler Donner all drove in two runs and Ryan Fransen, Carter Asche, Griff Schaub and Brett Feldman also had RBIs.

Asche worked four-plus innings to earn the win and Melin struck out four in 2.2 innings in relief.

Granite Falls’ Reed Raddatz was 3-for-3 with two doubles and he drove in all four of his team’s runs.

Sacred Heart/MACCRAY finished the regular season 8-3 and will find out its playoff seed on Thursday.

Sam Ohden’s three-run double in the fifth proved to be the game-winner for Prinsburg on Monday in Prinsburg.

Tyler Daugherty picked up the win, scattering seven hits and striking out three.

The Orioles, now 7-5 overall, play at Kerkhoven today.

Neither pitching staff allowed an earned run in a Legion game Monday in which Litchfield pitchers Matt Hopkins and Sam Renner combined for 14 strike outs.

Tri-Town committed six errors and Litchfield booted three balls.

Renner got the win, allowing two hits and striking out six over the final three innings. Hopkins struck out eight.

Tri-Town pitchers Brody Larson, David Kinzler and Nick Peterson all worked two innings and struck out six.

Tri-Town’s Jordan Nelson drove in two runs and Peterson also had an RBI.

Tri-Town, now 0-9, heads into the playoffs in the Southeast Sub District, which seeds teams on Thursday.
