Legion Baseball: Willmar wins Wood Bat tournament at Albany

ALBANY -- Willmar won twice by three runs or less and captured the title at the Albany Wood Bat Tournament in American Legion baseball action Saturday.


Post 167 beat Little Falls, 4-1, in the first round on a one-hitter by Alex Lotthammer. Willmar (13-4) edged Dassel-Cokato 5-4 for the tournament crown in the bottom of the seventh on a Tyler Horning infield single.

The win avenged the high school team's loss in the Section 2AAA championship, which Dassel-Cokato won 9-4 exactly one month ago.

The pitcher that was Tyler Zwiebohmer, who allowed four runs on eight hits. He allowed five runs on eight hits Saturday and was tagged with the loss.


Willmar 4, Little Falls 1

Lotthammer didn't allow a hit for the first 6Zc innings, then gave up a single. He finished with 13 strikeouts and four walks.

Willmar got all the runs it needed in the second inning. Travis Hanson had an RBI single and Alex Malmgren's fielder's choice drove in another run. He squeezed bunted in another run in the sixth.

Matt Seehusen had two hits for Willmar.

Willmar 5, Dassel-Cok. 4

After Dassel-Cokato rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh, Willmar made use of its speed to win the game.

George Jacobson walked for the third time and went to second on a Kyle Townswick single. After a double steal, Horning's infield hit brought Jacobson home.

Jason Scheffler pitched the seventh inning to pick up the win.

Glenwood 8, Litchfield 5

Glenwood scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to win.

Jon Hoffmann led the offense with two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Andy Toop pitched the last three innings for the win.

Kyle Klusler, Martin Mendoza and Chris Thomspon had two hits each for Litchfield.
