LeRoy F. Gaub Jan. 29, 1933 - June 26, 2013

LAKE LILLIAN - LeRoy F. Gaub, 80, of Lake Lillian passed away Wednesday, June 26th, 2013, at Superior Residences at Cala Hills Memory Care Facility in Ocala, Florida. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 10th, 2013 at Svea Lutheran Church in Svea, MN, with the Rev. Ronald Harris officiating. Burial with military honors is in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org.

On January 29, 1933, Leroy F. Gaub was born at Hosmer, South Dakota, the son of Walter and Bertha (Jung) Gaub. While growing up at Hosmer, he attended country school through the eighth grade, leaving school to work. He later served his country in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Kentucky. He joined the paratroopers during this time and made twenty-two jumps during his two-year enlistment. After his honorable discharge in March, 1995, he returned to the Bird Island area where he met his future wife, Jacqueline Kienholz. They were married on August 31, 1957, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bird Island. The lived in Olivia most of their married life, where they raised their children and were active in civic and community functions as well as active members of Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church.

LeRoy worked his way up in the business world, becoming a successful owner of his sewer and water construction company of which he was very proud. In later years, LeRoy and Jacque moved to their retirement home on Big Kandi Lake and became faithful and generous members of Svea Lutheran Church. LeRoy helped on committees and also helped finance the upgrade of the church kitchen, including cabinets and appliances.

On November 18, 2006, LeRoy was married to Carol Jean Brown at Epiphany Catholic Church by her pastor and family friend, the Rev. Bernard Reiser, in Coon Rapids. Following their marriage, they lived in her home in Andover, on Big Kandi Lake and wintered in Ocala, Florida.

LeRoy and Carol had many enjoyable years together. They especially enjoyed viewing the many horse shows in Ocala, as well as the time they spent visiting with their many Florida friends. LeRoy had a strong faith and enjoyed visiting with Pastor Ed Holloway of Joy Lutheran Church in Ocala, Florida. Pastor Holloway continued to visit him at Superior Residences remarking that LeRoy always had a colorful story to tell him. LeRoy was a kind and generous man, proud of his German heritage which he shared with the pastor and staff members at Superior Residences. LeRoy loved his family and grandchildren very much and enjoyed spending time with them.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Jean Brown of Andover; his six children: Joel (and Steve) Connor of Sherman Oaks, CA, Paul (and Trudy) Gaub of Eden Prairie, Kory (and Mark) Phillips of Maiden Rock, WI, Andres (and Ana) Gaub of Des Moines, IA, Miguel Gaub of Richfield, Stephanie (and Jim) Taylor of Bloomington; his step-children, Tory (and Tami) Brown of Oak Grove and Trent (and Trena) Brown of Sun Prairie, WI. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren: Courtney Phillips, Zackory Phillips, Andrew Gaub, Ashton Gaub, Jacob Taylor, Rebekah Taylor, Sarah Taylor; his step-grandchildren: Joseph (and Kelly) Mott, Joshua (and Kristen) Mott, Katie Mott (and Joshua Calkins Treworgy), Wyatt Brown, Logan Brown, Drew Phillips, and Jade Phillips; his step-great grandchildren: Veronica Mott, Kinnick Mott, Amelia Mott, and Avery Calkins Treworgy Mott. Additional survivors include his sister, Lucille Jung of Eagan and numerous other relatives and friends.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; Jacqueline, his wife of 48 years; brothers, John Sr., Lee, Leo and his sister, Arlene Barnard.
