In his strongly partisan letter riddled with untruths and inaccuracies, Chippewa County DFL Chair Harlan Broers incorrectly claimed that no state candidates were invited to a recent candidate forum in Clara City.
This is not true. As the late U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan once said, Mr. Broers is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts.
To my knowledge, an invitation to participate was graciously given to both me and my opponent Andrew Falk. At least that was my understanding. It was an invitation I was happy to accept. Perhaps Mr. Broers was upset that Andrew Falk did not attend.
The forum provided county, city and state candidates with an excellent opportunity to share their ideas, goals and visions. There was a fair and open exchange of ideas, exactly as candidate forums are meant to provide.
And while Mr. Broers "might never have a cup of coffee with me" I would be happy to sit down with anyone -- regardless of political party or philosophy -- to discuss the challenges facing our state. It's a policy I will pursue both now, and in the event I am honored to be chosen as the next state representative for District 17A.
