Letter: The benefits of Medicare
Lavonne Reller, in her letter to the editor, is absolutely right. Anyone who doesn't like socialized medicine or a government-sponsored health care plan should cut up their Medicare cards and get out of the program.
With all this anger being expressed and the ranting and raving, some Republicans like Dick Armey and even Gov. Pawlenty now say we should scrap Medicare entirely. That scares me and should scare you, too!
The problem is too many people think with their emotions instead of their minds. They say, "Don't confuse me with the facts."
Medicare is such a great plan for seniors. Why shouldn't we want a similar government-sponsored plan for the millions who are uninsured? Sounds great to me.
As Lavonne says, don't be a hypocrite. If you don't like a government-sponsored health care plan, just cut up your Medicare cards and see what you can get from the private insurance companies -- and at what cost.
We are the only civilized country in the world who doesn't provide health care for all of our citizens. It must get done now!
