Letter: Deception on climate change
I am deeply disturbed by the commentary by Cal Thomas titled “Climate change ice-capped.” This commentary is irresponsible as journalism, filled with deception and outright lies. The hottest temperatures on record have occurred in the last 15 years. Yet, Thomas contends: “Global temperatures have failed to rise for 15 years, sea level rise is failing to accelerate...”
Sea levels are rising. It doesn’t matter if they are “accelerating”. Earth’s hottest average temperatures are being recorded in the past decade and a half. “Acceleration” is not the issue.
Thomas should be quoting James Hanson, the leading climate scientist in America, not the UK Daily Mail. He has the figures, and the background.
Thomas sounds to me like a crony of the big oil companies. Not a friend of the poor, and earth’s creatures. Nor a friend of truth. Certainly science didn’t convince George Bush, nor has it convinced Thomas.
There are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics. In my mind, the way Thomas has used statistics in his commentary fulfills the third of these. I suggest Thomas go back to the drawing board and look at the data on climate change.
