Letter: Disregard for pedestrians

Email

I have lived in this town for two years now, after moving away for 13, and I am completely appalled by the disregard for pedestrians.

There have been several times that I have been almost hit, times where I have waited more than 10 minutes to cross the street, or where cars have not stopped for me even at a stoplight. I am often afraid to cross the street just to retrieve the mail.

There are laws that protect pedestrians that are either being ignored or forgotten. One such law is that when a driver comes out of a parking lot or alley, they are to stop at the sidewalk and not only look for pedestrians, but to stop for them.

I do wish to thank all of the people that have stopped for me at a busy intersection to wave me on or have even pulled out into the intersection so that I could cross.
