Letter: Do we need ‘placemaking’?
Apparently, “placemaking” is the latest catch-phrase in Willmar’s attempt to rejuvenate its downtown. According to the article in the April 8 edition of the West Central Tribune, placemaking is the creation of public spaces that are accessible and people-centered. It seems to me that we have had these kinds of spaces for year — they are called parks.
As for the movable chairs and benches mentioned, I don’t know if the majority of the citizens of the Willmar area would utilize them, as they are working and probably wouldn’t have time for all this conversation and people-watching.
