Letter: Drive 55 and conserve fuel
In 1961, President John Kenney challenged my generation: "...My fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what you can do for your country."
We are in our sixth week of a gas crisis. I have yet to hear either presidential candidate to ask this generation what they are going to do about the demand side of this crisis. For those of us who went through the last gas crisis, the answer is uncomfortable, but we know it works. Drive 55 mph. It is something that everyone can do and be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
This is something that I have decided to do again. I am retired and can't do much about the problem, but I can do that. So when you pass an "old geezer" going 55 in the right lane, please wave -- but use all your fingers. I am only doing my part.
