Letter: Is education still a priority?

Email

We are in an increasingly highly competitive world. Nations vie against nations to succeed. Education of the young is very important, as they are the future hope for any nation.

One wonders as to the wishes and priorities of the Republican Party as to the future of our youth. In Minnesota, many schools are going to a four-day week. Many schools are trimming staff, coursework and extracurricular activities. Property taxes, the least fair of any tax, have increased dramatically in recent years.

Why is this happening? The schools don't have enough money because the state has decreased funding. Meanwhile, the Republicans concentrate on "important" issues such as voter ID. In the meantime, the rich still bask in their low tax rates while the rest of the world educates its youth.
