Letter: End open season on doves
The Saturday, Aug. 17, issue of the West Central Tribune, in the outdoor section, had an article under a large headline announcing the opening of the Minnesota dove season on Sept. 1.
When I think about the gentle, harmless birds that awaken us each morning with their soft coo being used for target practice, it causes me to wonder what pleasure a person can experience from blasting a little bird with a shotgun.
Ironically, in your Monday, Aug. 18, issue, there is an article under the headline, "Until extinction, passenger pigeons popular with hunters."
It seems to me there is a lesson here somewhere. Let's try to get rid of the open season on doves.
