Letter: Energy bill needs support

The U.S. spends $600 billion importing oil every year. We ship boatloads of that money to countries hostile toward the U.S. We also borrow a lot of that money from China. Currently, our economy is in shambles and unemployment is running at record levels.

Wouldn't you think that a bill to foster the creation of jobs (30,000 in Minnesota alone), to halt shipping boatloads of money away, reduce foreign borrowing, to move us solidly toward energy independence and to reduce the emission of pollutants into our atmosphere would pass without debate?

Well, it won't without your help. First, thank Rep. Collin Peterson for voting for this bill, the American Clean Energy and Security Act (H.R. 2454) that passed the House. Our senators are now being heavily pressured by big oil and their allies to squash this bill as it moves through the Senate. Quite simply, they view it as bad for business.

Please contact your senators, Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, and urge them to vote for our future and not be swayed by the oil lobby's pressure and money.
