Letter: The global warming controversy

Since the Democrats have again assumed power in Washington, the theory of global warming is getting more than its share of attention. According to Al Gore, global warming is man-made. He also claims that it's a direct result of burning fossil fuels. However, there are two obstacles that stand in the way of that kind of thinking.

No. 1: We are in the throes of a faltering economy. That fact alone makes it nearly impossible to talk industry into spending money on something as intangible as attempting to control carbon dioxide emissions, because it would require industry to install expensive equipment to meet these goals.

Secondly, it has been scientifically determined, contrary to global warming enthusiasts, that in the last few years we've been witnessing a gradual return to a colder climate. The last two winters have also been colder than normal, causing the public to become more skeptical about the theory of global warming.

Over the years, carbon dioxide has been accused of being a significant contributor to greenhouse gases. However, there is no scientific proof of this. The question now facing the public is: How did we allow ourselves to be brainwashed to the point that we allowed bad science to drive big government? And will we ever be able to stop it?

Further proof that global warming is a hoax comes from former astronaut Harrison Schmitt. He was one of the astronauts who walked on the moon as part of the Apollo 17 mission.

He holds a science degree from the California Institute of Technology. He also studied geology at the University of Oslo in Norway and he obtained a doctorate in geology from Harvard University in 1964.

Schmitt goes on to say that the global warming scare is being used as a political tool to increase government control over American lives, incomes and decision-making. He also contends that scientists are intimidated when they disagree with their counterparts on what causes global warming. Time will tell if his theories are correct.
