Wednesday, March 30, has been designated as "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day" by Congress to honor all Vietnam War veterans. On March 30, 1973, the last American service member left Vietnam to return to the United States.
They did not return to triumphant tickertape parades, speeches, etc., as at the end of World Wars I and II. Instead, these Vietnam veterans returned home to silence or worse -- in some cases, denigration for having served their country during a controversial war.
Thus, fly your flag Wednesday and welcome home any Vietnam veteran you know. Show you appreciate what they did.
