Letter: Many laws listed in Leviticus

Email

This is a response to Norm Baker's letter in the June 28 Tribune.

Apparently you, Mr. Baker, are without sin and abide by God's Laws, or do you abide by only the ones you agree with?

You don't mention a lot of the other laws written in Leviticus like: Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric; (Leviticus 19:19) don't cut your hair or shave; (Leviticus 19:27) any person who curses his mother or father must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9) Have you ever done that?

If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people." (Leviticus 20:18) Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27) People who have flat noses, or are blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God. (Leviticus 21:17-18) Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of cattle. (Leviticus 19:19) Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19).

Do you also follow this one from Deuteronomy, Mr. Baker? Kill anyone with a different religion. (Deuteronomy 17:2-7)

People are so fast to mention the laws from Leviticus to bash homosexuals, but they don't mention the rest of the laws in the Bible.

There are a lot of books out there also about the Bible and how it was written -- a translation of a translation of a translation of a translation. And do you really want to live your life today following some laws that were written over 3,000 years ago?

So to be a "legitimate" Christian everyone must be of the same religion so everyone believes the same things from the Bible. So who is correct, Mr. Baker? The Catholics? The Lutherans? Baptist? Jewish?

And to make it clear -- I go to church, I believe in God, I believe in Jesus. Do I believe everything in the Bible? No.
