Letter: NLS team wasn't booing
I would like to add to the rebuttal written by New London-Spicer athletic director, John Vraa.
I was at the Albany/NLS game, sitting in the front row with my dad and grandmother. I witnessed the trophy presentation from about 50 feet away. After the trophy was presented to Albany, Luke Evans, the Albany quarterback, held up the trophy and all the Albany fans yelled, "LUUUUUUUUUUUKE" -- for Luke Evans.
NLS has also done something like this in the past with Aaron "Moose" Johnson. When Aaron would make a basket the fans would yell, "Moooooooooose."
Both of these sound like "booooos" but instead are cheers for incredible athletes.
That is exactly what happened last week at the Albany/NLS game -- "Luuuuuuuuuuuuke" was being yelled by Albany fans -- no booooos by NLS players and coaches. There is no way our coaches or any NLS school staff member would allow this to happen.
Yes, we are rivals but also have the utmost respect for Albany and its talent. They were the better team and we wish them the best of luck in the state tournament. Go Huskies!
