Letter: Our ideological tug of war
Early this year I bought a set of combination wrenches, and as I removed it from the display rack, I noticed something different about the package wording of the next set. It so happened that I got the last “Made in U.S.A” set, the next sets were made in China. Over the years, I had gotten desensitized to seeing everything from bolts, boots, automotive and farm machinery repair parts, home and commercial electronics devices and appliances coming from that country; even our grocery stores are getting food items from China.
But this year seeing those “Craftsman” wrenches, of which I have memories going back about 50 years, kind of made me sad. There is also a stark reality behind this entire “Made in China” syndrome.
Consider these quotes:
Vladimir Lenin, founder of the Soviet Union and father of global communism, said: “Capitalists would give communists the technical, material and financial help they need to prevail in their ideological tug of war with the world’s democracies.” In other words, they will sell us the rope by which they will hang us.
Nikita Khrushchev (in 1956): “Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you.” (Some historians say democracies only last about 250 years, America is at 237)
Communist Chinese Chairman Mao: “In the future we will set up the Earth Control Committee, and make a uniform plan for the Earth” (1958 speech to his provincial chiefs).
In August of this year, the Chinese Communist Party Propaganda Department mandated that every reporter, producer and editor must go back to school for Marxism classes. Over 300,000 press corps members will be reviewed for progress in February.
A nation that degrades virtue lets itself get dumbed-down, de-motivated and demoralized quite easily and fits neatly into the pattern outlined centuries ago by Chinese archivist Lao Zi: “The Sage rules thus: he empties their minds, stuffs their bellies, weakens their will, and strengthens their bodies. He always keeps the people devoid of intelligence and desire. He keeps the intelligent in fear from action, and all are governed.”
